Office bearers and chief executive

The Chief Executive runs our day-to-day business and is responsibleĀ for our strategy andĀ the delivery of our annual plan.

Our office bearers are the President, Vice President, and immediate Past President. You can find out more about the roles of the President and Vice President below.

Role of the President

  • To be the non-executive Chair of the Council and the Board.
  • To champion and lead the profession and the Law Society of Scotland.
  • To represent the profession and the Law Society of Scotland to Government, the media, external bodies and at ceremonial events.
  • To be an ambassador for the profession.
  • To conduct appraisals of the Chief Executive, including objective setting and identifying relevant priorities for the Society.

Role of the Vice President

  • To be the deputy non-executive Chair of the Council and the Board.
  • To assist the President in championing and leading the profession and the
    Law Society of Scotland.
  • To assist the President in representing the profession and the Law Society of Scotland to Government, the media, external bodies and at ceremonial events.
  • To assist the President as an ambassador for the profession.
  • To assist the President in conducting appraisals of the Chief Executive, including agreeing objectives and identifying relevant priorities for the Society.
