This course builds on the Law Society of Scotland Data Protection Certified Course and provides initial recertification. As it is expected that previous delegates on the Certified Course will have had continued involvement in data protection the course assumes a background in this area of law.
Session 1 will provide an update, covering developments in the relevant legislation, recent ICO guidance and significant cases. In this rapidly developing area of law the fine detail of this session will be decided close to the date of the course.
Session 2 will be devoted to discussion of interesting case studies. The case studies are based on real situations and are chosen to raise a range of data protection issues, including the choice of a condition for processing special category data and the obtaining of personal data by web scraping. These will be sent to delegates in advance of the course. Before the course delegates will be expected to read these and consider the accompanying questions in order to facilitate the discussion.
In order to achieve recertification delegates will be required to attend one full day of training, then submit a written answer to questions relating to the material covered in the day. Answers will need to demonstrate an understanding of relevant aspects of the law.
(Please note that if you have already recertified in Data Protection, this is not the correct course for you - please see Data Protection Re-recertification Course | Law Society of Scotland)
