Join us this October for our ‘Lunch and Learn’ seminar - Digital Forensics Essentials for Legal Professionals.

In today’s increasingly digital world, understanding and applying digital forensics can be the difference between winning and losing a case. This CPD session is designed to equip legal professionals with the knowledge to identify, interpret, and leverage key digital evidence effectively.

Our expert speakers, Calum Baird and James McGoldrick, bring a wealth of experience from their work as Detectives in Police Scotland’s Digital Forensics and Cybercrime Investigations Units. They will guide you through the digital forensics process, demystify core concepts, and explain the essential terminology every legal professional should know.

Whether you’re dealing with cybercrime, fraud, or cases involving digital evidence, this session will give you the practical insights to strengthen your approach and support your clients with confidence.

Who is this course for?

This session is ideal for solicitors, paralegals, legal technologists, legal academics and students, as well as digital forensics professionals and cybercrime advisors looking to deepen their understanding of how digital evidence can support legal outcomes.

Learning outcomes

  • Explain the digital forensics process and distinguish between different types, including dead box, live, and network forensics
  • Identify common sources of digital evidence and understand their relevance in legal proceedings
  • Interpret key concepts and terminology found in digital forensics reports, such as attribution, timestamps, file systems, and browser history
  • Assess the benefits, limitations, and emerging challenges of digital forensics, including issues posed by generative AI
