Do you encounter environmental issues in your day-to-day work or have an interest in the ever-changing field of environmental law?
Environmental law is a fast-paced practice area, but Scotland’s challenge to reach its legally binding target of net zero by 2045 has meant that the rate of change has been exponential of late. Changes in policy and legislation have the potential to affect legal practices across the profession. It is important for lawyers, both in private practice and in-house, to have some level of understanding of these changes and how they might affect their clients.
Our two speakers, Laura Tainsh and Chala McKenna from the Environmental Team at Davidson Chalmers Stewart are Law Society of Scotland Accredited Specialist Environmental Lawyers and Chartered Waste and Resource Managers with the Chartered Institution of Wastes Management (CIWM). One year on from our expert speakers Spring 2022 environmental law update, there has been considerable change in this area of law. Join us in July 2023 to learn about what is driving the change, what changes are proposed, how this may affect your practice and your clients’ businesses and how to prepare for this.
Learning outcomes:
- Recognise the policy drivers behind change in Scottish environmental law
- Identify new and impending environmental policy and legislation, including: the Scottish deposit return scheme, the ban on biodegradable municipal waste being landfilled and changes regarding incineration
- Understand how the changes may affect you and/or your clients and how to prepare for them
