Following our well-attended March conference on financial provision and relationship breakdown, our second Family Law Conference for 2022 was entirely dedicated to the key issues around children and families.
As the Scottish Government continues to implement its Family Justice Modernisation Strategy, the landscape of family law practice is changing. With the imminent incorporation of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC) into Scots law, the provisions of the Children (Scotland) Act 2020, and a sharpening focus on modern family structures, it is important for solicitors advising on family and child law to be aware of these changes and understand the impact they will have on their practice.
In this conference, we took a deep dive into some of the most pressing topics and themes which will shape your practice in the coming years. Our speakers provided comprehensive guidance on the recent and upcoming legislative developments and how to prepare for these. They also provided important practice updates on child welfare reporting, virtual hearings and much more.
Learning outcomes:
- Understand what upcoming legislative developments mean for your practice and for family law more broadly, and how to prepare for these changes
- Connect with other practitioners and share thoughts and ideas about the current challenges within family and child law
- Gain insights into the latest litigation practices and children’s hearings in the post-Covid civil justice landscape
- Consider modern family structures, the rights of parents and children within them, and relevant international considerations
- Improve your understanding regarding the rights of siblings, including siblings in care, and the protection of children from abusive family environments
