Our first family law seminar of 2024 is happening in June, covering cohabitants’ rights. By attending, you will be provided with an overview of the latest case law alongside an update on the prospects for reform in this area. Our speakers will also provide you with fine-tuned knowledge on making applications for financial provisions when cohabiting relationships end, whether this is by way of separation or death.
There will be opportunity to ask questions of speakers and interact with fellow delegates, to provide you with the skills and confidence to assist clients with up-to-date, high quality advice. This seminar will be of interest to both lawyers and paralegals who specialise in family law.
Learning outcomes:
- Enhance your knowledge of cohabitants’ rights under the Family Law (Scotland) Act 2006
- Understand how and when to make an application for financial provision upon separation
- Gain insight into how cohabiting couples can protect their interests
- Learn about cohabitants’ claims upon death, including rights on intestacy and changes following the Trusts and Succession (Scotland) Act 2024
- Refresh your understanding of case law and the prospects of legislative reform
