Fertility awareness is about understanding our options when it comes to having a family, as well as being mindful of how our biology changes throughout the course of our adult lives and how this impacts fertility levels.
This session was delivered by Dr Marco Gaudoin, Medical Director at GCRM Fertility, as part of our Mental Health Awareness Week 2021 event series.
It’s perhaps something you might not quickly associate with workplace wellbeing, however, struggles with fertility or worrying about when the ‘right time’ is to make decisions about children can take a real emotional toll on our mental health. It is quite natural that this will interplay with our professional lives at work and become all-consuming. For a lot of working professionals, planning a family and growing a successful career can often come at the same time, which can complicate the picture.
In this session, we’ll learn some key facts which are critical to understanding fertility, as well as getting an insight into the realities of ‘prolonging’ the fertility window. For example, freezing eggs, freezing embryos and what the difference is in terms of their efficacy.
About the speaker, Dr. Marco Gaudoin MBChB, MD, FRCOG
Marco graduated from Edinburgh in 1987 and after general practice training specialised in Obstetrics and Gynaecology.
He was a Consultant Gynaecologist at the Southern General Hospital (now the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital) in Glasgow and set up GCRM in 2006 where he has worked fulltime since 2010.
GCRM was Scotland’s first purpose-built IVF unit and pioneered the development of “individualised” patient treatment protocols, based on individual women’s reproductive biology - a concept that has now been adopted not just within the UK, but globally.
He has published widely in many areas of reproductive medicine but enjoys clinical work and patient interaction above all.
