1 hour verifiable CPD l Please note: This webinar fulfils the 1-hour of annual Risk Management CPD required by all Scottish solicitors

Jonathan Gilbert began his career as a solicitor, before he was sentenced to 12 years in prison for his role in a large and complex mortgage fraud operation. Now working as a lecturer and consultant on financial crime, Jonathan joins us to share his cautionary tale.

This webinar focusses on the standards of conduct expected of solicitors and offers practical advice for legal professionals to protect themselves and their firms against the risks associated with professional misconduct.

We will reflect on the fraud operation which resulted in Jonathan losing his licence to practice and consider the circumstances that allowed this operation to take hold.

Learning outcomes:

  •          Gain insight into the personal experience of a solicitor who facilitated illicit behaviour for his client
  •           Understand the various elements that can allow professional misconduct to go undetected
  •           Critically evaluate the risk management practices at your own firm
