The Chancellor’s Budget on the 30th of October 2024 contained sweeping changes to inheritance tax that will see long term implications for farmers and landowners in Scotland, effective from April 2026. This raised one overarching question: what can farmers do to protect their property and assets while planning for succession?
Our expert speaker will analyse these complexities, laying out the known and suspected changes coming to inheritance tax, through the restrictions of Agricultural Property Relief (APR) and Business Property Relief (BPR). We will also discuss the reliefs and options available to landowners, including, but not limited to gifts, s117 in the Inheritance Tax Act 1984, and trusts. This webinar will highlight the importance of succession planning for farmers, and provide the tools to do so, before the 6th of April 2026.
Learning outcomes:
- Hear about the long-term effect of new inheritance tax laws restricting APR and BPR for farmers
- Learn about some of the remedies that could be available to farmers to protect their assets for future generations
- Consider the importance of succession planning and pre-emptively protecting against the upcoming changes to inheritance tax
