As part of its 75th anniversary celebrations, the Society has launched a new accolade designed to honour those who have made significant contributions to Scotland’s legal sector.
As part of its 75th anniversary celebrations, the Law Society of Scotland has announced the launch of the Legal Pioneer Award, a new accolade designed to honour those who have made significant contributions to Scotland’s legal sector. The award is open to both solicitors and non-solicitors, recognising the wide range of individuals, past or present, who have influenced the legal landscape.
Susan Murray, President of the Law Society of Scotland, expressed her enthusiasm for the award: “Solicitors and many others within the legal sector do hugely important work to help people at critical times in their lives and our 75th anniversary provides a wonderful opportunity to recognise those who have made a difference to the law and legal practice in Scotland.
“Anyone working in the Scottish legal sector can nominate their chosen legal pioneer, whether they are a solicitor or non-solicitor. Nominations might include solicitors whose cases resulted in a change to the law; legal academics whose research contributed to policy change; or those who advanced technological change or broke down barriers within the sector to improve access.
“We want to hear about the legal pioneers, past or present, who have made a difference and helped create the diverse, dynamic and successful legal sector we see in Scotland today.”
The award seeks to highlight individuals who have played a pivotal role in shaping the legal sector. Nominations can be submitted for various contributions, such as landmark cases, influential research, technological advancements or efforts to improve access and break down barriers within the sector.
How to nominate:
To nominate a legal pioneer, complete the nomination form with up to 600 words detailing the nominee’s contributions. The deadline for submissions is Friday 27th September 2024. For more information, including the nomination form, click here.
