How Brodies marked 15 years of consecutive growth with record revenue

16th July 2025 Written by: Joshua King

Brodies LLP has badged itself as Scotland’s leading law firm, with more than 100 partners and a roster of flagship clients.

News of record revenue has further cemented the firm’s position. New figures published this week reveal a fifteenth consecutive year of growth and revenue topping £126 million.

The figure for the financial year ending April 30, 2025 marks an 11 per cent increase from £113.3 million in the previous year.

Operating profit is up, reaching over £50 million up from £49.2 million in the previous period, and profit per equity partner has hit £885,296.

In a statement this week, Brodies said all the firm’s core practice areas — including banking and finance, corporate and commertical, dispute resolution and risk, personal and family, and real estate — made progress.

Headcount increased by five per cent, from 837 to 883. Among the new names is James Wilson, appointed as banking and finance partner, as well as seven internal partner promotions.

The firm also awarded a 5% bonus to all eligible colleagues; alongside individual performance bonuses and salary increases. Cash balances at year-end stood at £23.7 million, up from £20.9 million the previous year.

What Brodies’ leadership has said

Brodies managing partner Stephen Goldie said: "Achieving progress amid continuing domestic and global headwinds reflects the resilience and ambition of our clients in Scotland, across the UK, and internationally. Their trust in us to deliver results on complex and exciting mandates inspires us to work harder and smarter every day.

"Recording our fifteenth consecutive year of growth is testament to the strength of those relationships and the dedication of our colleagues to deliver exceptional legal services."

"As we enter the second year of our current three-year strategic cycle, we remain focused on those plans—recognising the talent and contribution of our colleagues, encouraging greater collaboration across our firm and with our clients, and investing in our offices and in technology that augments the high standards our clients expect.

"We also welcome our new chair, Iain Rutherford, and extend our utmost thanks to Christine O'Neill KC for the considerable wisdom and unwavering commitment she brought to the role of chair. Clients and colleagues alike will continue to benefit from those qualities in her role as a partner in our disputes team.

"The year in review marks my first full year as managing partner. In that time, it has been my privilege to work closely with many colleagues across the firm. I am continually impressed by the exceptional talent and kindness that I witness daily. It reminds me that over and above everything else, we are a people business that believes in our core values."

When an invoice is not a contract: the authorities behind the analysis

28th May 2026
"At the heart of the analysis was the principle that where a pursuer’s averments, supported by productions lodged in process, directly and compellingly contradict the defender’s position, the court is entitled to proceed on that basis."
