Collected news of new appointments and practice changes

Bruce Beveridge, Past President of the Law Society of Scotland, has been appointed as chair and non-executive director of thinkWhere, a geographic information system consultancy based in Stirling.

BROWN & McRAE, solicitors, Fraserburgh and Turriff, are pleased to announce the appointment of their associate Steven Gauld as a partner, with effect fro­m 1 April 2015.

DAC BEACHCROFT, Glasgow, Edinburgh and elsewhere, has appointed Colin Bissett to lead its insurance-related regulatory unit in Scotland. A former partner of BELL, RUSSELL & CO, Glasgow, he has run his own criminal law practice since 2012.

FRAZER COOGANS COMMERCIAL SOLICITORS, Ayr, has appointed Craig Currie as a solicitor advising in agricultural and commercial property, wills and estate planning.

GILLESPIE MACANDREW LLP, Edinburgh and Perth, has opened an office at 69 Buchanan Street, Glasgow G1 3HL, from 30 March 2015.

THE GLASGOW LAW PRACTICE, Glasgow, has announced the promotion of family law senior solicitor Jacqueline Harkins to associate with effect from February 2015.

HARPER MACLEOD, Glasgow, Edinburgh, Inverness and Thurso, has named five new partners among seven promotions within the firm. The new partners are Julie Doncaster and Jacqueline Leslie (private client), Craig McKerracher (corporate), Calum MacLeod (energy & natural resources), and Fiona Pask (dispute resolution). Susie Henderson and Allyson Gilchrist (private client) are promoted from assistant to associate.

KW LAW, Livingston and Bathgate, are pleased to announce that with effect from 1 April 2015, Deborah Fleming has been promoted to associate of the firm. She will continue to practise in family law, principally from the firm’s Livingston office.

McCASH & HUNTER LLP, Perth, are delighted to announce the appointment of Amanda Millar as partner with effect from 1 April 2015. Amanda is an accredited specialist in mental health law and in incapacity and mental disability law, working in the firm’s Private Client and Court Teams. W W & J McCLURE solicitors, Glasgow, Edinburgh, Aberdeen, Greenock and elsewhere, is delighted to announce three internal promotions. Stewart Moore, who heads the firm’s Edinburgh office, moves to the position of senior associate. Stephanie Hutton has also moved to the position of senior associate, within the firm’s Glasgow office. Siobhan McGuigan will take up a role as an associate, overseeing the Executry and Probate department.

PINSENT MASONS, Glasgow, Edinburgh, Aberdeen and elsewhere, has appointed five new partners across its offices in Scotland among 29 lawyers across its partnership globally. In Scotland, financial services specialists Stacey Bairner and Alan Cassels,infrastructure experts Craig Morrison and Victoria Miller, and real estate-focused Gary McGovern will all be promoted from 1 May 2015.

RAEBURN CHRISTIE CLARK & WALLACE, Aberdeen, Ellon, Banchory, Inverurie and Stonehaven, are delighted to announce that they have promoted Martin Pirret to the position of associate solicitor within the firm. Martin works within the commercial property department in the firm’s Albyn Place office in Aberdeen.

THORNTONS LAW LLP, Dundee and elsewhere, has appointed Gemma Ogilvie as an associate in commercial litigation, IP and media law. She joins from MACLAY MURRAY & SPENS.

TURCAN CONNELL, Edinburgh, Glasgow, London and Guernsey, has made a number of promotions across the firm: Yvonne Littlefield in wills, estates and succession, and Don Macleod in land and property, become senior associates; Lindsay McCulloch, Sarah Jackson and Scott Hunter in wills, estates and succession; Victoria Tweed in business law, and Lindsey Ogilvie in divorce and family law, have been promoted to associate; while Adelle Seaton and David Welsh in wills, estates and succession, and Lyndsay McGregor in land and property, have been promoted to senior solicitor. These promotions take effect from 1 April 2015.

WATERMANS, Edinburgh, personal injury solicitors, has announced the opening of a new office at Festival House, 177 West George Street, Glasgow G2 2LB. It will be headed by Ross Slater, who joined Watermans in January, working along with Susanne McGraw, who joins from THOMPSONS, and Heather Tierney, who is currently based in the firm’s Edinburgh office.

WRIGHT, JOHNSTON & MACKENZIE LLP, Edinburgh, Glasgow and Inverness, has promoted specialist licensed trade lawyer Stacy Campbell to senior associate.
