Paralegal pointers: introducing the Scottish Paralegal Association committee for 2017-19
The Scottish Paralegal Association (SPA) was formed in 1993 to promote the interests of paralegals in Scotland. We are a voluntary association with a constitution and an elected committee.
The SPA is the only body recognised by the Law Society of Scotland as representing the interests and promoting the development of paralegals in Scotland in a wide variety of roles. Firmly established membership criteria and a code of conduct, combined with a CPD requirement, provide confidence in SPA members and their ability to deliver legal services in a competent and professional manner.
Our committee comprises:
Sandra Reid, President – a qualified paralegal with 20 years’ experience in English and Scottish property law, our longest serving office bearer. She works with Lindsays in Glasgow for business and private clients.
Alison Smith, Vice President – a qualified paralegal with extensive experience of licensing law, working for TLT in Glasgow.
Louise Duguid, secretary
– a paralegal manager who has worked for over 12 years at Blackadders’ conveyancing department in Dundee.
– a paralegal manager who has worked for over 12 years at Blackadders’ conveyancing department in Dundee.
Anne McDowall, membership secretary – works for McVey & Murricane, Glasgow in the New Build Unit.
Paul Kirkwood-Allen – has worked in conveyancing for seven years, currently with Aberdein Considine, Aberdeen.
Ann Clark – new to the committee but an experienced paralegal working in Lindsays’ Edinburgh office dealing with commercial property.
Margaret McGhee – with over 20 years’ experience, she works for Neilsons, Edinburgh, where she deals with wills, trusts and executries.
Elaine Campbell – also with over 20 years’ experience, she works in debt recovery for Campbell Smith, Edinburgh.
We are arranging a conference in Aberdeen for 28 September. Please put the date in your diary and watch out for a newsletter or update on our website.
If there is anything you would like the committee to do for you, please contact me at sandrareid@lindsays.co.uk and I will do my best to help. If you would like us to arrange a CPD event locally, please let us know, and provided we get sufficient numbers we will be able to arrange a free event.
Sandra Reid, President
