Collected news of new appointments and practice changes

ANDERSON STRATHERN, Glasgow, Edinburgh and Haddington, has merged with HARDY MACPHAIL, Glasgow, whose three partners and seven other staff have joined Anderson Strathern’s Glasgow office.

BELL & CRAIG, Stirling and Falkirk, announces the retirement of its consultant Gordon W T Murphy with effect from 31 October 2019.

BLACKADDERS, Dundee and elsewhere, has moved its Edinburgh office to 40 Torphichen Street, Edinburgh EH3 8JB (t: 0131 222 8000).

BURGES SALMON, Edinburgh and UK wide, has appointed Stuart McMillan as a partner in its Banking team, based in Edinburgh. He joins from DLA PIPER.

BURNESS PAULL, Edinburgh, Glasgow and Aberdeen, has appointed Malcolm Wood, formerly group company secretary of LLOYDS BANKING GROUP, as a consultant in its corporate governance consultancy service.

CLARKE WILLMOTT LLP, London and UK wide, has appointed Ewen Cairns as a partner.

CLYDE & CO, Edinburgh, Glasgow and internationally, has appointed Stefanie Johnston as a Glasgow-based partner in its global Marine and Insurance teams. She joins from KEOGHS.

Clyde & Co has also transferred its SIMPSON & MARWICK Aberdeen estate agency business to LEDINGHAM CHALMERS from 4 November 2019. All 12 staff, including partner David Geddie and senior associate Lynne Stewart (now promoted to partner by Ledingham Chalmers), transferred along with Ledingham Chalmers personnel to a new entity trading under the Ledingham Chalmers Estate Agency brand. Clyde & Co’s remaining Aberdeen office, part of the firm’s global insurance practice, is unaffected, as is its use of the Simpson & Marwick brand in Edinburgh and East Lothian.

CMS, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Aberdeen and internationally, has appointed Eric Gilligan as an of counsel in its Aberdeen-based Employment team. He joins from STRONACHS where he was a partner and head of Employment.

CONNELLY & YEOMAN, Arbroath, announces the retirement of consultant Jonathan Yeoman, one of the founding partners of the firm, with effect from 31 October 2019, after almost 25 years as partner.

Domhnall Dods announces that he has moved from TOWERHOUSE LLP to senior regulatory adviser at CITYFIBRE, 4 Queen Street, Edinburgh.

DWF, Glasgow, Edinburgh and internationally, has appointed senior insurance litigator Lynne Macfarlane as a director in its Scottish insurance practice. She joins from CLYDE & CO.

GILLESPIE MACANDREW, Edinburgh, Glasgow and Perth, has appointed Karen Wooton, previously with BLACKADDERS and MORISONS, as legal director to lead its private client and tax practice in its Glasgow office. Gillespie Macandrew also welcomes five newly qualified solicitors from its trainee programme: in the Edinburgh office, Isla Fern in Corporate, Conner McConnell in Dispute Resolution, Katie McCormack in Private Client and Nicola Whyte in Commercial Property; and in Perth, Rachael Church in Land & Rural Business.

HOLMES MACKILLOP, Glasgow and Johnstone, has appointed Ralph Riddiough, who joins from KILPATRICK & WALKER, Ayr, and Michelle Rae, who joins from MACDONALD HENDERSON, Glasgow, to its Corporate team in Glasgow.

LINDSAYS, Edinburgh, Glasgow and Dundee, merged with HADDEN RANKIN, Edinburgh, on 28 October 2019. All Hadden Rankin staff have transferred to Lindsays’ head office at Caledonian Exchange, 19A Canning Street, Edinburgh. Ross Hadden and Dot Rankin both became partners at Lindsays on the merger date. Lindsays has welcomed two newly qualified solicitors, Amy Mayberry (Glasgow) and Harriet Waters (Edinburgh), to its Private Client team, and appointed two of its own now-qualified trainees, Emma McGinley and Claire Brown to its Dispute Resolution & Litigation team (Glasgow) and Family Law team (Dundee) respectively. Lindsays has also promoted Louise Norris to director in the Commercial Property team, Lauren Pasi to senior associate in the Personal Injury team, and Tim Macdonald to associate in the Rural Services team.

MORTON FRASER, Edinburgh and Glasgow, has appointed Sandra Cassels as a partner and Caroline Earnshaw and Julie Scott-Gilroy as associates in its Construction team. All three have joined from BTO.

MOV8 REAL ESTATE, Edinburgh, Glasgow and elsewhere, announces that Janette Kenny (previously with DRUMMOND MILLER and MORISONS) and Mairi Kennedy (formerly with CONVEYANCING DIRECT) have joined its Conveyancing department as a senior associate and senior solicitor respectively.

MTM DEFENCE LAWYERS, Edinburgh, Glasgow and Falkirk, has opened an office at 81 Chancery Lane, London WC2A 1DD (t: 0202 968 6086; f: 01324 611694; e: enquiries@mtmdefence.co.uk).

RAEBURN CHRISTIE CLARK & WALLACE, Aberdeen, Ellon, Stonehaven, Inverurie and Banchory, announces the retirement of partner Stewart Smith.

SHEPHERD & WEDDERBURN, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Aberdeen and London, has appointed private client specialist George Stevenson as a consultant based in its Aberdeen office. He was previously a partner and consultant at STRONACHS. Shepherd & Wedderburn has also promoted to associate, from 1 October 2019, Leigh Herd (Contentious Construction), Emma Guthrie (Property & Infrastructure), Katy Fitzpatrick (Banking & Finance), Nathaniel Buckingham (Contentious Construction), Andrew Winton (Commercial Disputes & Regulation) and James Bulpitt (Banking & Finance).

STUART & STUART, Edinburgh, Bonnyrigg and Penicuik, has promoted Rachel Davies, head of the Midlothian Residential Conveyancing team, to senior associate in its Bonnyrigg office, and appointed Emma Horne (formerly with DMD LAW) as a senior associate and head of the Private Client team, and James Brogan (who joined from RUSSEL & AITKEN) as a senior solicitor in the team, both in Edinburgh.

TAYLOR LAW, Dunfermline has merged into WRIGHT, JOHNSTON & MACKENZIE (WJM). Founder Ross Taylor becomes a partner in WJM’s Construction team, working from its Edinburgh and Dunfermline offices.

THORNTONS LAW LLP, Dundee and elsewhere, has appointed Stacey Jackson as a private client solicitor in its Arbroath office.

WRIGHT, JOHNSTON & MACKENZIE, Glasgow, Edinburgh, Inverness, Dunblane and Dunfermline, announces the retirement of George MacWilliam and Ian A MacDonald, partners in its Inverness office.
