In-house Community Platform

We're delighted to invite all in-house solicitor members of the Law Society to join our In-house Community Platform. This is an online networking site that allows in-house counsel to connect, collaborate, and thrive together.

Listening to feedback from in-house practitioners, particularly those working as sole counsel or in smaller teams, the In-house Lawyers Committee (ILC) has created a space to share best practice, encourage peer to peer support and ensure the growth of the in-house community.

Key benefits of joining the community include:

  • Networking opportunities – a platform to build connections with like-minded individuals, foster new professional relationships and expand your network.
  • Knowledge sharing – a private place to ask questions, discuss challenges and share resources, advice, and best practice.
  • Professional development – access information on events tailored for in-house counsel, articles and blogs written by and for the in-house community and resources designed to support your role.
  • Link to the ILC – an opportunity to find out more about the committee’s work and share your ideas on how it can best represent the in-house community.

How do I join?

If you’re a qualified in-house solicitor, follow these simple steps:

  1. Go to https://community.lawscot.org.uk/
  2. Click Login with Lawscot
  3. Enter your Law Society of Scotland username and password. This is required so that our database can recognise you as a genuine in-house solicitor member, but is only needed the first time you login
  4. Complete the profile details as prompted, including your role and organisation
  5. Create a password for the platform (in future, you can login using your email address and the password you create)
  6. Go to “Edit Profile” in the top right corner to add any additional information you want to share (such as a photo, a biography and sectors you are interested in)
  7. Start contributing to the forum!

If you’re a trainee in-house solicitor, the process is slightly different:

  1. Email us at inhouse@lawscot.org.uk
  2. Send us the following information:
    • Name
    • Organisation
    • Email address (this would usually be your work email address, but you may use a personal one if you prefer)
    • Date on which your traineeship will come to an end
    • Confirmation that you are happy for the Law Society team to enter the above details on the online platform
  3. We’ll send you a unique registration link. Follow this link to create a password for your account
  4. Go to “Edit Profile” in the top right corner to add any additional information you want to share (such as a photo, a biography and sectors you are interested in)
  5. Start contributing to the forum by connecting with your peers, sharing your experiences and asking questions! Under the “forums” section a thread has specifically been set up for trainees
  6. We will contact you around the time that your traineeship comes to an end. We may need to edit or delete your profile, depending on whether your NQ role remains in-house or you have moved to private practice

Share your feedback

The platform has been designed by in-house lawyers, for in-house lawyers, bringing together the talent we have across Scotland and beyond in one space. We believe that this platform will strengthen the in-house community, while also contributing to your professional progression.

We value your feedback, so please contact us at inhouse@lawscot.org.uk with any suggestions or questions.

Please join the conversation – we look forward to seeing you there!
