D6: Registered European Lawyers Forms
PLEASE NOTE: Since 1 January 2021, only a defined group of Swiss lawyers can be registered European lawyers (RELs) in the UK. All references to RELs in the Law Society of Scotland rules and guidance section now only apply to this specific group. Please click here for further information.
There are two relevant forms:
Application for First Registration as a Registered European Lawyer - REL1 - this is the appropriate form if you are a European lawyer making your first application to be a registered European lawyer registered with the Law Society of Scotland.
Application for Renewal of Registration as a Registered European Lawyer - REL2 - this is the appropriate form for annual renewals of registration. This form is generated pre-populated by the Registrar's Department and issued automatically in advance of the annual renewal date and hence is not available for download here. If you have not received a required REL2 form by 31 October in any year please email registrar@lawscot.org.uk.
Fees - the fee for each of these forms is £550.
If you wish to submit an REL1 application please download the form, complete it, print it out, sign it and return it (with the required supporting documentation identified in the form) to us by post to the following address:
The Registrar, The Law Society of Scotland, Atria One, 144 Morrison Street, Edinburgh EH3 8EX
Or by Legal Post to:
