CBI chair advises on countering racial hatred
David Isaac, the chair of the CBI, has published a letter to employers on the EHRC website. The letter is endorsed by the British Chambers of Commerce, the Federation of Small Businesses, ACAS, CIPD, the Employers Network for Equality & Inclusion and the TUC. It comes amid fears of an increase in incidents of racial attacks and abuse.
It advises how employers should support those subject to racial abuse or discrimination and how to tackle these concerns in the workplace. It points out that employers should make clear that racial harassment will not be tolerated, that employees understand what is expected of them, that employers should look out for behaviour that could suggest race hate, that discussions in the workplace should display respect to all and not condone any form of statement or behaviour that incites hatred. It also makes clear that employees should know who to turn to if they experience racial harassment.
