Letter: Help when it was needed

14th June 2012 | law society of scotland

Being a critic of some of the policies and procedures imposed on us from Drumsheugh Gardens, I also feel strongly that credit should be given where it is due.

The ubiquitous problems of membership of conveyancing panels will not have escaped the attention of any conveyancers in the profession, and in hindsight, has taught me that this is possibly not the best time for a “new start” firm, like us to seek membership of all of the panels.

One of our biggest national lenders has a very strict policy with regard to new appointments which is fairly rigorously adhered to. I am pleased to say however that, with the assistance of the Law Society of Scotland, we were afforded a fair hearing where we were able to persuade that lender to appoint us to their panel.

Without the assistance of the Society, we would not have had this opportunity and not achieved such a positive result. I think it only right, in these difficult times, to acknowledge that both lender and regulator were “On Your Side“.
