Letter: No, we have not forgiven
In Peter Nicholson’s article on Lorne Crerar, “Heart in the Highlands”, Mr Crerar states that the profession has not forgiven him for his support for the introduction of the home report system. Well Mr Crerar is exactly right. As a member of the profession I, for one, have not forgiven him and very few solicitors I speak to have forgiven him. I just wonder how much domestic conveyancing Mr Crerar was doing pre-and post- the home report system, and whether hand on heart he can say that home reports have improved the conveyancing system.
With my hand on my heart I can assure him that working daily with the system it is a costly shambles. He and his colleagues were well warned that this would be the case, and so it has proved. If he cannot admit that now, I very much doubt that he can be working at the coal face of domestic conveyancing.
