Move more! Mental Health Awareness Week 2024
Mental Health Awareness Week in 2024 takes place from 13 to 19 May. Now in its 23rd year, the week is an important opportunity to make time for our mental health and to tackle the stigma that remains a challenge in this important area.
This year’s theme for the week is “Movement: Moving more for our mental health”. Being active plays a crucial role in maintaining good mental health, yet many of us struggle to get enough exercise.
During MHAW week, we encourage people to find moments for movement in their daily routines. Whether it’s going for a walk, dancing to your favorite music or doing chair exercises while watching television, every bit counts!
As part of the week, we will be offering some webinars on key topics and also encouraging people to attend online events hosted by the legal sector’s dedicated mental health charity LawCare and Diversity+.

Wellbeing for Training Managers Are you a training manager who wants to talk about Wellbeing, Equality, Diversity and Inclusion? The Law Society of Scotland’s Education, Training and Qualifications (ETQ) Team are offering this online session to discuss the resources available to training managers, point you in the right direction for your own needs and consider what we might offer in the future. The event will be hosted by Lou Murphy, the Society’s Careers and Wellbeing Manager, who will be joined by our recently appointed Head of Education David Meighan to offer training managers a chance to talk to ETQ and their peers about concerns within the legal profession. |

Wellbeing for Partners – led by Catherine Hart Join us for a conversation on wellbeing led by Catherine Hart, who is a Partner at Digby Brown and a member of the Lawscot Wellbeing Steering Group, and Law Society Careers and Wellbeing Manager Lou Murphy. This session is specifically for Partners to help them consider their role in supporting the wellbeing of their employees. Discuss what you might need to be considering in your role as a people manager and resources that may help you create a wellbeing culture. |

Women in law – a session with Sheila Webster Join us to hear from our panel of superstar women working in law on what they see as the positives and challenges of being a women in the legal sector, along with possible future improvements. Law Society of Scotland President Sheila Webster will be joined by solicitors Nicola Rylatt and Laura Meldrum to share some of their own experiences along with what they’ve observed on positive employment practices and useful resources. Everyone in the legal sector will benefit from their insights on the challenges of being a woman working in the law and how understanding can make the profession a better place. |

Wellbeing for HR or Wellbeing leads Are you a HR Manager or a member of the legal profession with a wellbeing or recruitment remit? We want to talk to you about our resources, what we can do to help and support the legal profession, and the results of two recent surveys, Profile of the Profession and our survey of Scots Law students. This informal session will discuss your concerns and offer the opportunity for peer reflection. |
