Scottish legislation update

18th August 2015 | employment

Scotland Bill

The bill was considered in a committee of the whole House (of Commons) on 15, 29 and 30 June and 6 July 2015.

A motion after the second reading determined that the report stage and third reading of the bill are to take place over one day. The date for consideration of the bill at these stages has not yet been announced.

Detail on the progress of the various clauses can be found at
services.parliament.uk/bills/2015-16/scotland.html

Signing legal documents

The Legal Writings (Counterparts and Delivery) (Scotland) Act 2015 (Commencement) Order 2015 (SSI 2015/242) has been made. It brought ss 1 to 4 of the Legal Writings (Counterparts and Delivery) (Scotland) Act 2015 into force from 1 July 2015. The rest of the Act is already in force.

The Act allows for Scottish legal documents to be signed in counterpart (s 1) and delivered electronically (s 4). Members of The Law Society of Scotland can use their smartcard for these purposes.
