We are looking to train 20 Lawscot Wellbeing Champions to work alongside us to grow the number of wellbeing initiatives at grassroots level in the Scottish legal ecosystem, as well as increasing the impact of projects underway.

We aim to recruit and engage volunteers in the profession who have their own ambitions to improve an aspect of wellbeing in the law. Whether you are a trainee or a senior leader, we want a network which can reach across the Scottish profession, no matter your position.

Through our training and ongoing peer-support, Wellbeing Champions will learn how to successfully engage others to join an initiative, support colleagues and create spaces where people feel comfortable to share and participate.

We will support you with training, help you grow your ideas, expand your network and provide a platform to showcase your project. We will also establish a peer-support community of Wellbeing Champions, so you can get support and advice from others who share the same passion for mental health.

Want to run mood-boosting meetings for new parents? Passionate about providing a platform for men's mental health? Aiming to create a peer support group for neurodiverse colleagues? We'd love to hear from you, whatever your niche area of interest is.

As a Wellbeing Champion, we want to know how you think you can make a positive impact on mental health in the legal profession. We can help you hone your idea, but we are looking for self-starters who will start their own projects or perhaps work alongside other Champions. Some examples are:

  • running an event
  • establishing a support group
  • creating a staff network
  • getting people involved in a regular activity to boost wellbeing
  • creating online content like blogs or videos

You might want to run in-person activities to boost face-to-face engagement in your local area to develop a community, or you might feel your idea best belongs online with a potential reach across Scotland and beyond.

About the training

This session will be delivered by Super Wellness.

This 3-hour wellbeing champion foundation training will cover theory, discussion facilitation and practical coaching to apply essential skills at the start of the champion journey. Some key points will be:

  • Understanding the concept of wellbeing in the workplace
  • Key barriers to wellbeing at work
  • The role of a wellbeing champion
  • Skills for wellbeing champions, including influencing skills, supporting others, promoting mental health and wellbeing, motivating colleagues and fostering psychological safety.

Some feedback from previous Wellbeing Champions training with Super Wellness:

“Well worth the time invested.”
“Really thorough and insightful. The trainer was excellent too & very engaging.”
“Very informative, friendly and welcoming.”

How to apply

To apply, please complete our short application form.

We will ask you some basic information about yourself and ask you to tell us a bit about why you hope to become a Lawscot Wellbeing Champion.

We will be choosing successful applicants based on passion and enthusiasm to commit to the role, while ensuring we have a cohort of champions to represent a range of special interest areas that relate to mental health and wellbeing, levels of seniority and geographic locations where possible.

Please send any questions to our Careers & Wellbeing Manager, Olivia Moore: oliviamoore@lawscot.org.uk.
