In this free session we're focusing on young people and anxiety. Anxiety is the theme of this year's Mental Health Awareness Week, and we know that supporting others with their mental health can be uniquely challenging, especially children.
According to a survey run by the NHS, young people in the UK have higher mental health need than ever. 1 in 6 young people in England (aged 5 to 16) experienced a mental health problem in 2020, up from 1 in 9 in 2017, of which many cases will be linked to anxiety as it's a commonly reported problem for this group.
We have invited Children 1st to join us for this lunchtime session, to give us information and their advice, and we'll also host a Q&A session, so you can participate. The session will broadly cover:
- Identifying signs of anxiety in young people
- Causes of anxiety for children
- How anxiety might manifest
- How to help your child when they're experiencing anxiety
- How to get it right and how you might get it wrong when it comes to supporting your child
Meet Children 1st
Children 1st works to keep children safe, loved and well and together with their families.
Children do well when their families do well, so we work with children and families in their homes, local communities and across Scotland. They offer practical, emotional and financial support to prevent and protect children and their families from harm and to support them to recover from trauma and abuse.
They also work alongside children, young people and their families to uphold and progress their rights and to strengthen and improve the systems that are there to support them.
If your family are feeling stressed or anxious Children 1st Parentline can help.
