In-House Rising Star Award heats up with shortlist announced

Four up-and-coming Scottish solicitors have been shortlisted as finalists for this year’s In-House Rising Star Award.

They were selected from a field of nine impressive candidates for the Law Society of Scotland’s annual award to recognise the best Scottish-qualified in-house solicitors with up to five years post-qualification experience.

The shortlisted solicitors are:

• Stephen Annis – Glasgow City Council
• Christopher Knudsen – Too Good To Go
• Eilidh MacQuarrie – East Dunbartonshire Council
• Kerri Montgomery – DC Thomson

The judging panel will now select a final winner to be announced by Law Society of Scotland President Sheila Webster at the Society’s In-house Annual Conference on 20 June, 2023.

Judging panel member Rachael McLean – a member of the Law Society’s In-house Lawyers Committee and Head of Strategy and the Business Division in the Scottish Government Legal Directorate – said: “Congratulations to our four finalists! It’s been such a pleasure to see so many high calibre candidates in the running for this year’s award, but also difficult to omit some outstanding early-career lawyers from this shortlist.

“We’re looking forward to celebrating our winner and the other finalists at our In-house Annual Conference later this month. Maintaining our community of in-house lawyers is really important in continuing our professional development and highlighting the importance of our work.”

“Stephen, Christopher, Eilidh and Kerri have all been nominated by their managers, who’ve been impressed by their contributions to in-house practice. Based on the entries we’ve received, we hope that all nine entrants have long and distinguished legal careers in Scotland ahead of them.
