Nominations for 2016 president and vice president announced

27th November 2015 | Law Society news

Eilidh Wiseman has been nominated to become president of the Law Society of Scotland next year.

Current vice president, Eilidh Wiseman was the sole nominee for the post and will succeed current president Christine McLintock in May 2016.

Ms Wiseman, former head of the employment team at Dundas and Wilson,  joined the Law Society Council in 2009 and in addition to her current role as vice president is also convener of the Education & Training Committee.

Graham Matthews has been nominated as the next vice president of the Law Society of Scotland. Mr Matthews, a partner at law firm Peterkins, was the sole nominee for the vice presidency role. He has served as the Council member representing Aberdeenshire solicitors for over 10 years and sits on a number of committees including the Society’s Professional Practice and Regulatory Committees. He will also take up the post in May 2016.

Law Society President Christine McLintock, said: “I’m very pleased to congratulate both Eilidh and Graham on their nominations today.

“Eilidh is someone of the highest ability and integrity. She brings great experience from private practice and from her work as the Society’s Education and Training Committee convener and I have no doubt that she will bring all her expertise, energy and enthusiasm to the role of president.

“Graham has been a longstanding member of the Council and has devoted many hours of his time and knowledge to the Law Society. As convener of the Professional Practice Committee and as a member of the Regulatory Committee he has a deep understanding of the high professional standards solicitors are expected to attain to ensure that they can provide the advice and service their clients need.”

The nominations for both posts will be confirmed at the Society’s December Council meeting.
