‘Rising stars’ chance to shine

28th August 2015 | Law Society news

Talented lawyers working in house will have their chance to shine in this year’s search for the Law Society’s In house Lawyers Group (ILG) Rising Star.

Nominations for the 2015 ILG Rising Star Award, which was launched in 2013, are now open.

Lynda Towers, chair of the In-House Lawyers’ Group, said: “We want to celebrate the often unsung talent of solicitors working in house - who now represent almost a third of the profession. We were absolutely delighted to get such strong entries for the first two years of the award and are excited to see what this year brings.

“The award presents the judges with a very hard task but illustrates just how many excellent solicitors we have working in-house, with nominations from right across the in-house spectrum, from local authorities, in-house company lawyers, public bodies and charities and covering a wide range of work.”

Nominees must be Scottish in-house trainee solicitors, NQ in-house solicitors or in-house solicitors with up to 5 years PQE and have a track record of achievements, proactively adding value and demonstrating innovation or legal process improvements. Nominees should also have made a positive contribution beyond their own organisation.

The nominations will be judged by a distinguished panel of in-house lawyers from various sectors and regions, lay members and some guest judges representing young lawyers and private practice and the winner will be announced in October.

Lynda Towers added: “The winner will be presented with the magnificent  In-house Rising Star 2015 trophy and will be offered two great career development opportunities: a day shadowing a senior in-house solicitor and two free sessions with a professional career coach.”

To nominate a colleague or someone you know who deserves this award, simply complete the nomination form and send it with the nominee's CV to Elaine MacGlone at elainemacglone@lawscot.org.uk by close of business on Friday 4 September 2015.
