A brother and sister from Stirling have been admitted as Scottish solicitors on the same day.
Hannah (28) and Joe Fitzgibbon (25) marked the culmination of years of hard work, and the beginning of an exciting career in law, together at the Law Society of Scotland’s most recent admissions ceremony in the Playfair Library in Edinburgh.
Their commitment and dedication to become solicitors has prepared them to help people every day by providing the legal advice and support they need. Scottish solicitors help guide people through some of the most important events in their lives whether that’s buying their first home, starting a brand new business or helping secure multi-million pound contracts. They also help protect the public and defend their rights at difficult times - if someone is losing their home, accused of a crime or when family relationships have broken down.
Christine McLintock, president of the Law Society of Scotland, said “Hannah and Joe should be proud of their focus and determination over the past few years. A career as a Scottish solicitor can bring exciting challenges and great opportunities. Whatever they choose to do next, they now share the badge of Scottish solicitor with over 11,000 of their peers who work in communities across Scotland, elsewhere in the UK and overseas. They have had a world-class legal education, meeting the accreditation standards set by the Law Society, and their hard-won qualification is highly respected by employers and lawyers all over the world.”
Hannah Fitzgibbon said: “Qualifying together made the achievement that bit more special and memorable. As we have chosen very different areas of the law it will be interesting to see where we both are in 20 years’ time!”
Joe Fitzgibbon said: “The traineeship has been a fantastic experience to share with my friends, colleagues and family members. I am very proud to have been admitted as a solicitor alongside Hannah and am looking forward to a challenging and rewarding career as a member of the legal profession.”
Both Hannah and Joe attended Dollar Academy in Stirling. Hannah studied at Edinburgh University and now works as a private client solicitor at Stuart & Stuart in Edinburgh. Joe studied at the University of Glasgow and will start at Shepherd and Wedderburn in Glasgow at the end of the month.
ENDS 23 September 2015
