Aberdeen Law Project names new student director
Louise Sloan has been named as the next student director of the Aberdeen Law Project (ALP), the student-run law clinic in Aberdeen.
Ms Sloan, a third year student at the University of Aberdeen, will take over in April from Lindsay McCormick, who is taking up a traineeship at Shepherd & Wedderburn.
A native of Kilmarnock, she said ALP had been a "key factor" in her decision to study at Aberdeen. "Following the University open day I read about and was inspired by the story of ALP's formation, its objectives and its impact on the north east. It really made Aberdeen stand apart for me”, she commented.
“I have always had a desire to do good, but becoming involved with ALP has really helped me to start making a difference. Choosing to study at Aberdeen and joining ALP have proven to be great decisions. I am excited to be taking on the role as student director for 2016-17 and I hope to use my own ALP experience to help further the many successes of this unique, ambitious and inspiring organisation.”
Ryan Whelan, chair of the ALP board and an associate at Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher, described Ms Sloan as "the standout candidate in what was again an incredibly impressive applicant pool". He added: "Louise is clearly extremely able but what impressed us most at interview was her passion for improving access to justice and empowering the disadvantaged. I have no doubt that she’ll be an excellent ambassador for the project and will lead its talented student membership with distinction.”
- ALP's Annual Lecture will be given at 4.30pm on Friday 26 February by Christine McLintock, President of the Law Society of Scotland. A limited number of tickets remain; click here to register.
