Another national award for Strathclyde Law Clinic
Student-run Strathclyde Law Clinic is celebrating further national recognition, after Fergus Lawrie took the award for Best Contribution by an Individual Student at the 2016 Law Works and Attorney General Student Awards.
Mr Lawrie played a "fundamental role" in establishing the clinic's new Small Business Law Unit which will be piloted over the summer, and will shortly take over as one of the clinic's co-student directors for 2016-17.
The citation for his award noted that: "The impact of Fergus’s pro bono commitment is wideranging and the beneficiaries include school age children in Glasgow, vulnerable clients seeking legal advice, new volunteers in pro bono law clinics, individuals seeking to set up their own small businesses or charities, and individuals requiring legal advice and representation, including asylum seekers.”
The clinic's executive committee was shortlisted at the same awards under the category "Best Contribution by a Team of Students." The clinic has won an award at the Law Works and Attorney General Awards every year since they were opened to Scottish law clinics. This is also the third award the clinic has won this year.
"We are delighted that Fergus's contribution to pro bono work has been recognised, and that the Law Clinic continues to go from strength to strength over what has been a very successful year", the current student directors, Clara Smeaton and Lyndsay Monaghan, commented.
