Boyd Legal secures finance director

Edinburgh-based practice Boyd Legal has alpointed Gerry Cockburn as finance director as it targets further growth.

Mr Cockburn Legal brings more than 25 years' experience to the role, much of it in the legal sector. Having started his career with Caesar & Howie, he moved to Golds Solicitors before becoming head of finance at the Faculty of Advocates. After two years there he made the switch to Optima Legal Services, remaining as financial controller after its acquisition by Capita plc. His most recent role with a legal firm was at Gilson Gray, helping its launch and early development.

Peter Boyd, managing partner at Boyd Legal, commented: “Gerry is a big hitter in the sector and we are thrilled to have him on the books here – where he will play a critical role within the business. It also gives us the financial disciplines to start bringing in senior associate solicitors into equity release, which is important for the future of the business."

Last year Boyd Legal merged with Kirkcaldy-based Gibson & Spears, Dow & Son, and the firm is committed to further growth.
