Call for teams for Scots Legal Walks
The hunt is on for teams and individuals to take part in this year's Scottish "Legal Walks", sponsored walks held in aid of the Access to Justice Foundation.
Four walks are taking place, all in October – Aberdeen and Dundee on Monday 5 October, and Edinburgh and Glasgow on Monday 12 October, beginning with registration between 5 and 5.30pm.
Each route is eight kilometres (five miles), and "will have a Magna Carta theme to celebrate the 800th anniversary of the sealing of the Magna Carta and highlight the document's importance and relevance to access to justice today", the organisers say.
Money raised will go to support free legal advice centres, the need for which has grown in recent years even as the recession has increased poverty and reduced support services, and funding for the advice centres themselves has reduced.
Organisations supported by the Foundation help prevent families being made homeless, help prevent destitution, help older people gain the support to which they are entitled, and help women and children who have been trafficked for domestic servitude or prostitution.
Anybody, whether or not a legal professional, is welcome to join the walk as long as they are fit and healthy enough to do so. Dogs are permitted if kept on a lead. There is no minimum or maximum number for a team, and individual participants are welcome to join other walkers on the day if they wish.
Regirtration is free, but participants are encouraged to raise as much money as they can for the Access to Justice Foundation. Donations are eligible for Gift Aid.
