Christine McLintock to become new Law Society president

Christine McLintock has been nominated to be the next president of the Law Society of Scotland, with two candidates nominated to succeed her as vice-president.

Christine McLintock has been a member of the Law Society Council since 2005 and served as the convener of the Society’s Education and Training Committee for seven years. She became general counsel for Pinsent Masons after the merger with McGrigors and headed up the Risk, Compliance and In-House Legal Services Group. She retired as a partner in Pinsent Masons last year to explore consultancy and non-executive opportunities.

Christine was elected vice-president of the Law Society last year and is now set to succeed Alistair Morris as president in May 2015.

The new vice-president will be decided by a secret ballot of Council members with the result due to be announced on 12 December. The two nominations for vice-president are:

Jane MacEachran is the head of Legal and Democratic Services at Aberdeen City Council and has been a member of the Society’s Council since 2002. She is convener of the Admissions Sub-committee.

Eilidh Wiseman is a former partner and head of the Employment Team at Dundas & Wilson. She is the current convener of the Education and Training Committee and represents the constituency of Edinburgh on the Law Society Council.

Current Law Society president, Alistair Morris, said: “Christine McLintock is someone of the highest ability and integrity. She brings great experience from private practice and from her work within the Law Society where she helped to overhaul of the whole route to qualifying as a solicitor and set up a new project designed to encourage greater diversity amongst solicitors. I can think of no better person to be the next president of the Law Society.

“I am also pleased to see two excellent candidates for vice-president. Whoever wins, it is clear there will be a first class team at the helm of the Society from next May.”
