Conference to be held in honour of George Gretton
A daylong conference is to be held in Edinburgh to celebrate the career of Professor Emeritus George Gretton.
The conference, on 1 December 2017 in the Mackenzie Building, 172 High Street, Edinburgh will coincide with the publication of a collection of essays in Professor Gretton's honour, edited by A J M Steven, R G Anderson and J MacLeod and entitled Nothing so Practical as a Good Theory: Festschrift for George L Gretton.
Both mark Professor Gretton’s profound contribution to private law scholarship, in Scotland and internationally. He has authored or co-authored more than 150 books, chapters and articles. He is particularly known for his work on commercial law, conveyancing, property law, and trusts and succession law. Professor Gretton served in the Edinburgh Law School for 35 years and is well known to the legal profession, particularly for his annual conveyancing roadshow with Professor Kenneth Reid.
Speakers at the conference will include Alan Barr; Professor Alexandra Braun; Professor Eric Clive; Judge Elizabeth Cooke; Professor Hector MacQueen, Lady Wolffe; the Lord Advocate, James Wolffe QC; and Professor Reinhard Zimmermann. Professor Gretton will conclude the proceedings with a reflection on his career.
The conference will be held under the auspices of the Edinburgh Centre for Private Law and the Faculty of Advocates has permitted the use of its premises at the Mackenzie Building. It is supported by the Faculty, the Clark Foundation for Legal Education, Millar & Bryce and DUAL Asset Underwriting.
