Death announced of former Aberdeen University teacher David Lessels
Tributes have been paid by former students and colleagues to David Lessels, former senior lecturer in law at the University of Aberdeen, who died on 28 December at the age of 69. He was diagnosed with prostate cancer 18 months ago.
Professor Lessels – he was given the honorary title on his retirement in 2013 – taught at the university for 40 years, work which included playing a leading role in establishing the university's Erasmus exchange programme under which students spend part of their degree time at a European university. Through his other long term role as university admissions officer, he took an interest in his students even before they began their studies.
He has been described as “an inspirational teacher and mentor to countless students and staff”, and on retirement a special ceilidh and dinner was held in his honour at Elphinstone Hall.
