Dedicated private international law forum set up
A new forum dedicated to international private law, also known as private international law – the law that determines which law applies in situations with a cross-border element – has been set up based in Edinburgh Law School.
Forum Conveniens is centred in Edinburgh to reflect the distinctive role of Scots law in the development of the subject, but organisers say that its focus will be international.
Its goal is to provide a means of bringing together interested parties (including academic lawyers, practitioners, the judiciary, law reformers, and policy makers) for discussion and exchange of ideas.
An inaugurating event for the Forum, open to all, will take place on Wednesday 19 November 2014, from 5.30 to 8.00pm in the university's Old College, with presentations from two distinguished American academics.
