Eilidh Wiseman elected next Law Society vice president

Eilidh Wiseman, former head of the employment team at Dundas and Wilson, has been elected as the next vice president of the Law Society of Scotland.

Ms Wiseman was declared the winner following a vote amongst Law Society Council members and will take up her new role in May 2015.

Jane MacEachran, Head of Legal and Democratic Services at Aberdeen City Council, was also a candidate in the election.

Current vice president and former general counsel for Pinsent Masons, Christine McLintock, was the sole-nominee to be the next president when nominations were sought last month. This follows the long standing convention whereby the vice president moves on to become president.

Current Law Society president Alistair Morris said: "I want to congratulate Eilidh Wiseman on her election. As the convener of our education and training committee, Eilidh understands the importance of maintaining high standards within the profession and protecting solicitors’ hard earned reputation for excellence.

“Her wide ranging experience from a large multinational law practice will also be important as the Society looks to serve an increasingly diverse profession which itself is dealing with a rapidly changing legal market.

“I also want to thank Jane MacEachran for standing in the vice-president election. Jane makes a huge contribution to the work of the Law Society, particularly through her chairing of our admissions committee. We benefit enormously from her judgment and expertise.”
