Entertainment contracts feature in BTO's 2018 Fringe show

7th August 2018

First time entertainment and publishing contracts are to be the theme of this year's appearance by BTO Solicitors at the Edinburgh Fringe, the 10th year it has taken part.

Entertainment and Publishing Contracts: A Guide for the Wannabe will see BTO’s entertainment industry and Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) advisers share their experience and top tips.

The free show will take place in Lecture Theatre 1 at Fringe Central (Venue 2), in the University of Edinburgh's Appleton Tower, on Thursday 9 August from 11.30-12.30 and Thursday 16 August from 4-5pm.

BTO partner Paul Motion commented: "The first offer of a deal can understandably be a hugely exciting occasion for the aspiring artist or author; however, it is vital to keep your feet on the ground and consider the terms of the proposed arrangement carefully: this is your future. Historically, entertainment and publishing contracts have tended to be heavily weighted in favour of managers, producers and publishers. We will try to flag the most common pitfalls.

"As strong supporters of the wider arts community, we want to help performers and writers secure the fairest possible contracts. As the largest arts festival in the world, the Fringe attracts thousands of participants from across the UK and beyond, many of whom are beginners on the scene. Our dedicated sessions will look at what terms contracts should contain and what performers and authors should try to negotiate out before signing a new deal – guidance which we hope will serve them well throughout their careers."

Tickets can be obtained at the door or online.
