Faculty to mark Women's Day with advocacy event

A special event to celebrate advocacy and its vital role in Scots law is being lined up by the Faculty of Advocates for International Women’s Day, 8 March 2018.

Taking place that day, “Advocacy” will feature talks by senior legal figures, and a new exhibition of photographic portraits, "Advocates: women at work".

With Maryam Labaki, advocate, in the chair, the Lord President, Lord Carloway, will lead with a discussion on "How to win your case – what judges look for in advocates".

Anna Poole QC will examine "Equitable briefing – issues and solutions", and a conversation between Angela Grahame QC, Vice Dean of Faculty, and Claire Mitchell, President of the Scottish Criminal Bar Association, will give advice on establishing and sustaining an advocacy practice.

The exhibition will feature the work of Victoria Young, advocate and professional photographer.

Ms Poole, one of the organisers, commented: "I’m delighted that the Lord President has agreed to come to speak and help us mark International Women’s Day. This event will be illuminating for all involved in litigation – not just those who appear in court but also those who instruct them – and anybody wondering about coming to the bar."
