Falkirk's MTM expands into Glasgow
Criminal law firm MTM Defence Lawyers has opened a permanent new office in Glasgow, at 2 West Regent Street.
The Falkirk-based practice, which opened in Edinburgh in 2016, is expanding to service clients in the west of Scotland – MTM estimates its business in Glasgow has grown by some 200% over the past two years. At the same time MTM has created a new working partnership with Falkirk’s Hutchison Law. Simon Hutchison of Hutchison Law will be working alongside the MTM legal team, bringing with him the firm’s portfolio of clients.
Against a background of fewer cases are being prosecuted, MTM is consolidating its legal aid client base while simultaneously expanding its private client base, which now accounts for about half of the firm’s work.
Director Martin Morrow commented: "The new office follows on from our office in Edinburgh, which opened in 2016. As in Edinburgh, establishing the Glasgow office has been driven by local referrals – both from other legal firms without their own in-house criminal law expertise, and by private individuals charged with criminal offences and in need of expert legal help. In all locations, the firm is looking to deliver a service that few others have provided – a top-quality service and affordable legal fees – and is structuring its services accordingly."
Speaking of Mr Hutchison’s appointment, Mr Morrow added: "Simon’s appointment to the role of consultant with MTM, and the partnership with him, adds another string to MTM’s bow as the firm continues to expand. The new partnership means that the second largest criminal defence firm in Falkirk district is coming together with the largest firm – MTM."
Mr Hutchison has had a long association with MTM, stretching back some 30 years. He said he saw the new formal partnership as offering mutual advantages in proividing cover for clients when their lawyer was unavailable.
