Fife firms Morgans and Macbeth Currie in merger

13th September 2018 | practice management

Two Fife-based legal firms have merged, as Macbeth Currie and Morgans cme together to practise as Morgans.

Three-partner Macbeth Currie, which has offices in Kinross, Edinburgh and Bonnyrigg (Midlothian) as well as its Dunfermline head office, traces its origins back to 1885; Dunfermline firm Morgans, which has five partners, celebrates its 25th anniversary this year.

The merger saw the Dunfermline and Kinross legal, lettings and estate agency business of Macbeth Currie transfer to Morgans. The merged business will practice under the Morgans name.

John Bain (Dunfermline) and Ken Paterson (Kinross), both partners in Macbeth Currie, join Morgans as consultants. Des Baxter (Dunfermline) joins as a senior associate.

Claire Morgan, managing Partner, said “Our 25th Anniversary has seen something of a growth spurt for Morgans. As part of our ambitions for growth we have refurbished our offices and expanded our office space which has given us the capacity for expansion.

"Macbeth Currie is a well known and respected firm and when the opportunity to bring the two firms together arose we were extremely keen to achieve this. Not only shall we be acquiring a new office in Kinross, and a considerable client following in both localities but also a wealth of experience in the new colleagues we are bringing to the firm. We look forward to working together.”

Mr Bain said: “While I am naturally sorry that this marks the end of an era for Macbeth Currie I am excited and looking forward to the prospect of joining Morgans, who are an excellent firm with a fine reputation for their professionalism, quality of work and client care. I have known the partners and a number of staff for many years and therefore I am confident that the future is bright for all Macbeth Currie clients and staff who are to become part of this new venture.”
