Forty days to go until 2018 Scottish Legal Walks
Legal professionals in Scotland have 40 days left to get organised to take part in this year's Scottish Legal Walks.
The charity events, in aid of the Access to Justice Foundation (ATJF), consist of a 10km walk after working hours in Edinburgh or Glasgow. This year's date is Monday 1 October, beginning at 5.30pm.
Supported by organisations including the Law Society of Scotland, Scottish Young Lawyers' Association, Royal Faculty of Procurators in Glasgow and Edinburgh Law School, the walks are part of 40 similar events that take place across the UK through the year to raise funds for local legal advice charities to help vulnerable people. More than £8,000 was raised in the 2017 Scottish walks, benefiting bodies such as CLAN Childlaw, Miscarriages of Justice Organisation, Scottish Child Law Centre and YMCA Edinburgh.
As well as the exercise, participants are treated to a photography challenge and a post-walk celebration.
Rebecca Samaras, of the ATJF Scottish Committee and director of Edinburgh Law School's Centre for Professional Legal Practice, commented: "Walks like this are extremely inportant, because the kind of people that advice agencies help are also the very people who just don't know where to turn, have been turned away, or cannot afford legal support."
