Gibson Kerr and Marwicks in Edinburgh merger

22nd September 2016 | practice management

Two Edinburgh-based legal firms have announced their merger as they seek to raise their game in the residential property and private client market.

Gibson Kerr and Marwicks are joining forces to create a practice with 13 staff in two offices in the capital and one in Glasgow.

Marwicks' principal, Michael Marwick, will continue in the merged firm as a consultant solicitor. His firm's office in Dundas Street, Edinburgh, will be refusbished and then rebranded as Gibson Kerr, and used for an expanded legal and estate agency practice. The merger will mean that clients of Marwicks, which has specialised in residential property, can be offered executry, power of attorney and family services.

Gibson Kerr, which has three partners, will also retain its offices in India Street, Edinburgh, and St Vincent Street, Glasgow.

Scott Rasmusen, partner and head of property at Gibson Kerr, commented: “We have been looking for sometime to find the right firm that would allow us to develop an enhanced residential property operation to meet our plans to further expand Gibson Kerr while complementing our other high quality client legal services.

“Marwicks and Gibson Kerr are the perfect fit; we share a similar profile and ethos, and a desire to provide excellent service to clients.

“We are looking forward to developing the Dundas Street premises, which provides us with a prime city centre shop front location and allow us to create what we think will be a new force in residential property.”
