Land Court has new deputy chair appointed
Advocate Iain Farquhar Maclean has been appointed as a member and the new deputy chair of the Scottish Land Court.
Mr Maclean is a former legal assistant to the Lord President of the Court of Session. Originally from the Isle of Skye, he is a graduate of the universities of Aberdeen, Cambridge and Edinburgh. He was admitted as a member of Faculty of Advocates in 1994 and served on the Scottish Government’s EU Agricultural Subsidies Appeals Procedure External Advisory Panel from 2005 to 2013.
He will take up his appointment 14 September 2015. The appointment is part time, at three days per week, on a salary of £132,184 per annum, equal on a pro rata basis to that of a sheriff.
The post became vacant when the former deputy, Lord Minginish, was appointed chair of the court. The appointment was made by the Scottish ministers on the advice of an expert panel. Mr Maclean has also appointed as a member of the court by the Queen, on the recommendation of Scottish Ministers, a requirement to take on the post of deputy chair.
