MacRoberts named as top of the Scottish SMEs
Legal firm MacRoberts has taken top prize at the Scottish SME Awards 2017, which recognise Scotland's best performing small and medium sized businesses.
The Glasgow headquartered practice, which also has offices in Edinburgh and Dundee, rose from last year's third place to no 1 in the SME300 rankings, following the highest turnover and profit figures it has recorded since 2009.
Revenues for its latest year rose from £17.96m to £19.8m, while profits climbed from £6.18m to £6.9m. Part of the firm's growth came from setting up a specialist corporate defence team, headed by John McGovern. The SME rankings are based first on turnover, then profits and finally on a combination of the two.
The awards are sponsored by Scottish Business Insider and the Bank of Scotland. Presenting the top award, Insider editor Ken Symon said: “All the finalists were amazing businesses – totally different sectors, totally different places in the country.
“It is actually really impressive to see what people do in the Scottish business community day in and day out. But there has to be one overall winner.”
