Malone admitted to China International arbitration panel

9th May 2017 | careers , dispute resolution

Scottish solicitor Brandon Malone has been admitted to the Panel of Arbitrators of the China International Economic and Trade Arbitration Commission (CIETAC), one of the major permanent arbitration institutions in the world.

The appointment, which runs for three years from 1 May 2017, makes him one of 405 arbitrators across the globe outside China, in addition to 1,032 based in mainland China.

Mr Malone is also a panel arbitrator for the International Centre for Dispute Resolution (ICDR) in New York. He commented: “I am very pleased to be admitted to the CIETAC panel. I hope that other Scottish arbitrators will be encouraged to apply to international arbitration panels. There is a huge amount of international arbitration work out there and Scottish practitioners have a lot to offer.”

Eilidh Wiseman, President of the Law Society of Scotland, added: "Brandon's acceptance onto the panel of arbitrators for the main arbitration body in China is very well deserved, and reflects his considerable experience and expertise in the field of arbitration. As one of only around 50 UK lawyers on the CIETAC list of arbitrators, the appointment is recognition of the high professional esteem in which he is rightly held.

"The Society has been involved in efforts to build on the strong commercial and other connections that exist between Scotland and China, and to identify investment, growth and new market opportunities for the legal profession. I am confident that the appointment of Brandon – a member of both our governing Council and Board – to the CIETAC panel will further strengthen those links.”
