Nominations open for 2018 In-house Rising Star award

23rd April 2018

Nominations have opened for the 2018 In-house Rising Star award, offered by the Law Society of Scotland.

Launched in 2013, the award celebrates and rewards the best performing newer members of the in-house legal community, a group that now represents over 30% of Scottish solicitors.

Nominees must be Scottish in-house trainees or in-house solicitors with up to five years' post-qualification experience. The nominations will be judged by In-house Committee members, Law Society of Scotland office bearers and key individuals working closely with the new lawyer community.

The award will be presented at a drinks reception at the Society’s annual In-House Conference in Glasgow on 18 June 2018.

Winner of the 2017 award, Leanne Hammell, commented: “I was delighted to have won the Rising Star Award, particularly given the high calibre of lawyers shortlisted.

“It was lovely to be recognised, not only by the judges but also by my organisation for doing a job I love. Winning the award has created numerous opportunities for me in terms of career progression and professional development.”

Graeme McWilliams, convener of the In-house Lawyers’ Committee, added: “Accounting for almost a third of all Scottish solicitors, in-house lawyers perform an important legal function in a range of public, private and third sector roles.

“This award celebrates their contribution and talent and gives them the recognition they deserve and chance to shine.”

To nominate a colleague or someone you know who deserves this award, complete the nomination form (click here to access). The deadline for entries is midday on Friday 25 May 2018.
