Partner promotions and associate hire at bto

26th January 2015 | careers

Glasgow and Edinburgh solicitors bto today announced the promotion of two new partners, along with an associate lateral hire.

Karina McShane in the insurance personal injury team, and Jilly Petrie and the construction and engineering team, both become partners, bringing the firm's partnership to 42 members. The construction and engineering team is also being strengthened with the recruitment of new associate Claire Mills from Burness Paull.

Ms McShane specialises in defending claims for various international and UK insurers and large self-insured companies, concerning public, employers' and road traffic liability in the Court of Session and sheriff court. Along with partner Stephen Bryceland she manages a large team of solicitors and claims handlers who deal with the defence of high volume reparation claims.

Ms Petrie, who holds a Master of Laws (LLM) in construction law, handles complex construction and engineering claims for employers, consultants, contractors and subcontractors and advises on related insurance matters. New associate Claire Mills has a decade of experience in construction law.

Bto chairman Alan Borthwick commented: “Both Karina and Jilly have won praise from clients for their technical ability and commercial approach to business. Their promotion is very well deserved and I have no doubt that they will continue to serve our clients well in their new roles. The arrival of Claire Mills is great news for our construction and engineering team, which continues to grow in both our Glasgow and Edinburgh offices and is an important part of our business."
