Promotions round at Gillespie Macandrew as turnover tops £10m
A round of promotions has been announced by legal firm Gillespie Macandrew LLP, along with first news of a record year for the practice in terms of turnover.
Unaudited figures for the year to 29 February 2016 show fee and other income up by more than 5% from £9.8m to £10.5m, the first time the firm has broken through the £10m fee level.
The six promotions, effective from 1 March 2016, are:
- to legal director: Elizabeth McLaughlin in the litigation team, and Margaret Day in energy and strategic land;
- to associate: Gillian Campbell in estate agency and residential conveyancing team, Lois Browning in land and rural business, and Michael Cox in the corporate team;
- to senior solicitor: Judith Joy in private client.
Chief executive Chris West commented on the firm's results: “While we won’t have the final profit position until after the audit, we have achieved this increase in turnover with fewer resources than expected, and margins and profits will be up accordingly. Our cash position remains very strong and we enter 2016-17 with no borrowing, giving us an excellent platform for the further people and systems investments we will make to even better meet our clients’ needs. As part of this we expect to grow our presence in Glasgow and Perth in particular.”
Chairman Murray Shaw added: "The 5% increase takes us past another small milestone. In the past year we have focused on growing the business organically rather than by merger or acquisition and this is bearing fruit. The new partners and staff we have brought in and on during the past year have increased our capacity and we look forward to greater growth in 2016-17.”
