Scots lawyers honoured in new year list
The President of the Mental Health Tribunal for Scotland and the Deputy Keeper of the Signet are among the Scots recognised in the 2018 New Year Honours List.
Advocate Dr Joseph Morrow, who heads the tribunals dealing with detention of persons suffering from mental illness, becomes a Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) for public service to mental health. Dr Morrow is also Lord Lyon King of Arms.
Caroline Docherty DKS and President of the Society of Writers to HM Signet, has been made an Officer of the same Order (OBE) for services to the legal profession and the WS Society.
Also awarded the CBE are James Martin, formerly Scottish Public Services Ombudsman, for services to the Scottish public sector, and Professor Lesley McAra, Professor of Penology and Assistant Principal for Community Engagement at the University of Edinburgh, for services to criminology; while an OBE also goes to Dr Lesley Sawers, Scotland commissioner on the Equality & Human Rights Commission and an honorary professor at Glasgow Caledonian University, for services to business and equality.
