Scots legal firm in New York tie-up
Edinburgh-based corporate law firm Nimmo WS has signed a joint venture deal with Manhattan law firm Rooney PC to create Rooney Nimmo, a practice with an international reach that also extends to the City of London, where a new office has been opened.
Nimmo WS is run by its principal, John Nimmo, a former corporate lawyer with Dickson Minto WS who is also a New York registered attorney. He set up his own practice in September 2009 to handle corporate and investment fund legal work. He has acted for public companies on the London Stock Exchange, set up a number of new investment companies, and acted for clients in takeover bids.
Rooney PC is a boutique commercial law firm handling all aspects of corporate and business law across the United States. Founded in 2007 by its principal, Allan Rooney, like Mr Nimmo an Edinburgh University graduate, it boasts a diverse range of national and international clients.
Mr Rooney said: “We are excited to be working together with Nimmo WS, an outstanding firm with whom we have a lot in common. We are now able to service our existing British clients at home and in America while enhancing our transatlantic mergers and acquisition and venture capital finance practice.”
The Rooney Nimmo office in New Broad Street, London, is being run by Edward Sloan, who joined Nimmo WS in 2011 and was previously with private client firm Turcan Connell, dealing with tax, trusts and asset management.
